More Hope, More Options with Blood and Marrow Transplant Care
Your child is in the best possible hands with our team of clinicians who have earned national recognition for their dedication, expertise, and outstanding survival rates according to the latest report by the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR). With a passion for providing exceptional care, our program thrives on teamwork, innovation, and a deep commitment to improving lives through advanced therapies and exceptional outcomes. We know that we’re helping children with blood diseases such as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and cancer to find new hope.
Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our long-standing service to the community, for over 30 years, at the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program at the Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. This trusted hospital partnership provides care for your child in a state-of-the-art BMT unit designed with their safety and well-being in mind, positively impacting their treatment.
In addition to our clinical expertise, we understand the importance of comprehensive support for your family facing a complex medical situation. As part of our hospital team collaboration, our BMT program — one of the few pediatric centers of its kind in South Florida — includes robust support services like child life specialists, music and art therapy, genetic counseling, fertility preservation, pain management, and lodging for those traveling long distances.
Our expert clinicians continue to expand treatment options including all donor source transplants and new and novel cellular therapies including CAR-T cell immunotherapy. Our multidisciplinary team will collaborate on treatment options, provide recommendations, and develop a plan, and then we'll discuss everything with you to decide on the best path forward.
We are active members in organizations that are dedicated to the advancement of BMT care and quality standards including:
- Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) — which sets global standards for high quality patient care in cellular therapies
- Children’s Oncology Group (COG) — is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research
- Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) — The CIBMTR's mission is to improve patient outcomes by advancing research and care for blood and bone marrow transplants.
- The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO) — a 2,000-member community of pediatric hematology/oncology professionals working to exchange ideas
- National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP, formerly Be the Match) — a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy, helping save the lives of patients with blood cancers and disorders
